Grade 2-Winning Millionaire Manny Wah Joins Irish Hill & Dutchess Views for 2026

Susan Naylor’s Manny Wah , a Grade 1 caliber sprinter and winner of the Grade 2 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland Race Course, will stand the 2026 season under the management of Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions LLC in Stillwater. The 9-year-old son of Will Take Charge will stand for a private fee in 2026.

Manny Wah earned black type placings in 14 other races beside his Phoenix score in 2022. He competed in two editions of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, finishing fourth and fifth in two tries as the world’s top sprinters. He proved himself to be a durable, top-quality sprinter over seven seasons of racing, amassing earnings $1,012,499

Manny Wah’s other graded stakes placings include runner up performances in Aqueduct’s Grade 3 Toboggan Stakes and Grade 3 Tom Fool Handicap. As a 3-year-old he kept top company, finishing third in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park and the Grade 3 LeComte Sakes at Fair Grounds. Manny Way broke his maiden at second asking and would earn black type in his 2-year old year. He earned stakes placings every season on the track.

Manny Wah is out of the winning, Grade 1-placed Proud Citizen mare Battlefield Angel, who is the half-sister to Kentucky Derby runner-up Lookin At Lee and multiple Grade 3 winner Blended Citizen.

Irish Hill & Dutchess Views’ Waiting Sires First Winner

Arindel’s homebred filly Nacho Problem graduated in her third start Sunday at Aqueduct to became the first winner for New York-based freshman sire Waiting.

Waiting, an 8-year-old unraced son of American Pharoah, stands for $2,500 at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions LLC in Stillwater.

Matched up against a group of eight first-time starters, Nacho Problem led from the start and won as the 5-2 favorite by three-quarters of a length over Devilish Grin under Christopher Elliott. Trained by Amelia Green, Nacho Problem finished third in her debut May 3 at Aqueduct and fourth in her most recent start June 8 at Saratoga Race Course.

“We have been hearing very good things from the training centers on Waiting’s first crop,” said Irish Hill & Dutchess Views’ Moe Scavullo. “It seemed likely he would have precocious runners but It is very nice to see it actually happen on the racetrack. We look forward to seeing more as the season progresses.”

Nacho Problem Becomes Freshman Sire Waiting's First Winner

Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions stand Waiting (by American Pharoah) and on Sunday at the Big A the freshman sire notched the first winner of his career when 2-year-old Nacho Problem graduated for breeder/owner Arindel in the second race on the card.

The New York-bred filly debuted in third during the Ozone Park meet while trying the main track May 3. Shipping upstate, Nacho Problem ran a well-beaten fourth against auction-restricted company June 8.

Ready for the surface switch here, the 5-2 choice fired out of the gate and established a clear lead up the backstretch. Pouring on the speed around the far turn, it appeared that her strategy was about to fall apart as a good chunk of the field began to bear down on her. However, digging down deep in the final furlong Nacho Problem found the strength to don cap and gown by 3/4 length over first-timer Devilish Grin (Daredevil).

Unraced first-crop sire Waiting has a dozen foals of racing age to his credit. The winner is her dam's first offfspring. Nacho Mama handed her a full-brother last year and she produced a colt by St Patrick's Day Mar. 22. Out of a stakes-winning dam, Nacho Mama is a full-sister to SW Turbo and SW Reaper. Her half-siblings of note are MSW Bernie the Maestro (Bernstein) and the dam of current sire Jackie's Warrior (Maclean's Music).

Son of Peace and Justice Named 2024 Claiming Crown Horse of the Year

Like a Saltshaker, son of Peace and Justice , was named the Claiming Crown Horse of the Year by Claiming Crown co-founders National Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association (NHBPA) and the Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association (TOBA).

Like a Saltshaker, who cemented his title with a narrow win in last fall's $140,000 Claiming Crown Rapit Transit at Churchill Downs, will be honored at the annual TOBA Awards Dinner on Sept. 6 at Fasig-Tipton in Lexington.

Trained by Brittany Vanden Berg, the gelding was campaigned by Marisco Brothers Racing, who claimed the Pennsylvania-bred for $10,000 on May 14, 2023. With 18 wins to his credit and $606,161 in career earnings, the 7-year-old was bred by Glenn Brok in Pennsylvania.

The Claiming Crown Horse of the Year is selected by the National HBPA's Industry Awards Committee chaired by Todd Mostoller, the Pennsylvania HBPA's executive director.

The 2025 Claiming Crown, totaling $1.1 million in purses, will be held Nov. 15 at Churchill Downs. Colonial Downs is hosting an eight-race Claiming Crown Showcase Day on Thursday, Aug. 21, at Virginia's track in New Kent, offering $550,000 in purses. The top two finishers in those races will receive an automatic berth in the corresponding Claiming Crown race in Louisville. The winner of each race will also receive a travel stipend from the Virginia HBPA of up to $2,000, provided the horse starts in the Claiming Crown championship race.

The deadline is Oct. 25 to request Claiming Crown eligibility for a horse to run in the Nov. 15 races at Churchill Downs, accompanied by a $250 administrative fee per horse per race. Late eligibility requests will be considered up to Nov. 8 (the day of entries) for a $1,250 administrative fee.

Irish Hill Century Farm and Dutchess Views Farms Fully Stocked for Success

King for a Day lived up to his name earlier this month when his progeny, Prince Valiant and Soontobeking, ran one-two in the $200,000 Times Square division of the New York Stallion Stakes Series, at Aqueduct Racetrack.

King for a Day [7-3-1-1, $260,550] stands for $5,000 at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions, a unique partnership owned and operated by Rick Burke [Irish Hill] and Michael Lischin [Dutchess Views] overseeing a talented and varied group of studs that also includes Mind Control , Peace and Justice , Lookin at Lee , Petulante , Warrior’s Charge , Waiting and the recent addition of 2022 Kentucky Derby-winner Rich Strike .

“We have a stallion for every mare,” Irish Hill and Dutchess Views’ business manager Moe Scavullo said. “The stallions all stand on location at Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater, which is a 10-minute drive from Union Avenue in Saratoga.”

The stars aligned for King for a Day in the NYSSS Times Square as Prince Valiant completed a three-race win streak with a gate-to-wire 3 1/2-length score over Soontobeking, who had become his sire’s first winner, in May, and first stakes winner by taking the state-bred Gander in March at the Big A.

“King for a Day is doing amazingly well. The interest in him is exploding as he proves himself to be a very good New York sire,” Scavullo said. “He’s getting the right mares for the right owners and his horses are getting the job done. He’s making hay on small numbers right now, but they’re coming.

“Right now, he’s second nationally as a second-crop sire on average earnings per runner,” Scavullo added. “That shows you not only the success of King for a Day but also of NYRA and where the money is for New York-breds and New York-sired New York-breds.”

The earning potential for New York-breds is set to increase with a two-part plan to provide purse parity for Empire State-breds on the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit.

In October 2023, NYRA announced that beginning January 1, 2026, all New York-bred overnight races for 2-year-olds [foals of 2024] on the NYRA circuit will offer purse amounts matching their open-company counterparts.

On December 30, NYRA further announced that effective January 1, 2027, all New York-bred overnight races will be run for purse money equal to their open-company counterparts, allowing the New York-bred foal crop to benefit from the financial reward of purse parity throughout their racing careers.

New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB) Executive Director Najja Thompson commented on the importance of the increased incentives for New York-breds on the NYRA circuit.

“We’ve established unprecedented incentives for New York-breds working in partnership with our fellow stakeholders including NYRA, The New York State Thoroughbred Breeding & Development Fund, and the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, Inc., highlighting the increased value to breeding, owning, and racing New York-breds in New York,” Thompson said. “Combined with the improved quality of stallions standing across the state at operations such as Irish Hill and Dutchess Views, with national television coverage thanks to NYRA’s partnership with FOX Sports and a new state-of-the-art Belmont Park which is expected to be completed in 2026, there is no better time to participate in New York breeding and racing.”

Peace and Justice [8-3-1-0, $137,448], a talented turf miler by War Front, was brought to New York in December after standing in Pennsylvania, but Empire State breeders are sure to be familiar with his now 5-year-old progeny Dontlookbackatall, who captured the Grade 3 Caress presented by Albany Med Health System on turf last summer at Saratoga Race Course.

Trained by Christophe Clement, Dontlookbackatall has banked $659,565 via a 16-6-6-0 ledger and is working towards a title defense in the Listed $150,000 License Fee in May at Belmont at the Big A.

Scavullo noted that the construction of the new Belmont Park, which will re-open in 2026 and offer a fully renovated main dirt track, two turf courses and a new one-mile Tapeta oval, provides new opportunities for breeders – in particular, the Tapeta course, which will become the exclusive winter racing surface on the NYRA circuit.

“There are multiple opportunities here for horses that have a little bit of that turf pedigree that seems to translate well to the synthetic but also can get you a great dirt runner as well,” Scavullo said. “The breeders and stallion awards that are available in New York in combination with the three surfaces that are coming our way gives Peace and Justice a great year-round chance to be a good sire. If you look up and down his lines, what I found most surprising with him is you find horses that have won hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

Among the big earners for the now 15-year-old Peace and Justice, who stands for a $7,500 fee, are the stakes-winner Like a Saltshaker [41-18-9-1, $604,311] and Summary Judgment [44-13-7-5, $334,578].

“They run for a long time, have good speed and do it the right way,” Scavullo said of Peace and Justice progeny. “We’re hoping he’ll be successful when synthetic opens up in New York. He’s got that War Front sire line and he’s out of a Smart Strike mare which screams grass and synthetic.”

Mind Control [29-11-3-6, $2,071,834] enjoyed tremendous success on dirt in New York, posting Grade 1 scores in the 2018 Hopeful and 2019 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial at Saratoga before completing his career with a typically gritty head score in the 2022 Cigar Mile Handicap at the Big A. He entered stud in 2023 and stands for $8,000.

“Dutchess Views, Irish Hill and Rockridge put a group of people together to purchase him because he was such a now racehorse – retired off a win and was just the right horse,” Scavullo said. “He’s from the family of King for a Day as well, so it was natural for us to get involved as well.

“He was a multiple Grade 1 winner, and he just checked all the boxes to stand in New York for the right amount of money,” Scavullo added. “He bred 190 mares first year and 122 mares his second year. That’s a testament to his partners that supported him. We’re really looking forward to his first runners in 2026.”

Mind Control is by another strong New York runner in Stay Thirsty, who, in 2011, captured the Grade 2 Jim Dandy and Grade 1 Travers around two turns at Saratoga, and completed his career with a victory in the 2012 Cigar Mile.

Scavullo said the family’s Empire State success bodes well for Mind Control’s stock.

“Mind Control was a great one-turn horse and that’s where we write most of our races. He’s going to have the numbers to make a good run at being a really good sire,” Scavullo said.

Rich Strike [14-2-1-3, $2,526,809], by Keen Ice, picked up the majority of his Kentucky Derby qualifying points with a strong rail run to finish third in the 2022 Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks over the Turfway Park synthetic. Dismissed at odds of 80-1 after drawing into the Kentucky Derby, he closed from 17 lengths off the pace to post an unlikely three-quarter length score over eventual Grade 1 Travers-winner and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt Epicenter.

Bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm, Rich Strike, a half-brother to Grade 2-winning turfer Llanarmon, is out of the graded stakes winning Smart Strike mare Gold Strike, who was named Canada’s Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in 2005.

Originally slated to stand at Mountain Springs Farm in Pennsylvania, the 6-year-old was purchased by a group that includes his former trainer Eric Reed and moved to the Empire State.

“Our stallion manager Bill Leak said, ‘he’s a big, good-looking horse. He carries himself like a Kentucky Derby winner,’” Scavullo said. “By Keen Ice and out of a Champion mare, the team thought New York was the right place for him.”

Each of the stallions currently standing at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views offers something a little different and the potential for prospective breeders to enjoy their own ‘King for a Day’ experience in the lucrative New York marketplace.

“It’s a diverse group of stallions from a pedigree standpoint to an economic standpoint,” Scavullo said. “We do the best we can for breeders and help them to take advantage of breeders’ awards when these horses start running in New York. We try to be a very service-oriented group.”

King for a Day’s Prince Valiant wires NYSS Times Square

Red Oak Stable’s Prince Valiant kept it simple and maintained his winning ways with a front-running victory in Sunday’s $200,000 Times Square division of the New York Stallion Series Stakes at Aqueduct.

The 3-year-old won his first stakes and also became the second stakes winner for his sire King for a Day , a son of Uncle Mo who stands for $5,000 at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions LLC in Stillwater. King for a Day’s first stakes winner – Soontobeking, who took the March 8 Gander at Aqueduct – finished second in Sunday’s Times Square.

Dylan Davis rode Prince Valiant for trainer Todd Pletcher, scoring by 3 1/2 lengths in the 6 1/2-furlong restricted stakes.

“He’s a really cool little horse,” said Pletcher’s assistant Stu Hampson. “Both in his works in the mornings and in the afternoons, he just seems to keep progressing and getting a little bit better every time. His last two months, his works have steadily improved, and his efforts in the afternoons have also.

“It’s a pleasure to have a horse like this for Red Oak and it’s nice when what we see in the mornings adds up to good performances in the afternoon.”

Bred by Sugar Maple Farm and the second foal out of the D’Funnybone mare Lizzy’s Fun, Prince Valiant sold to Red Oak Farm for $50,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed sale.

Unraced at 2, Prince Valiant finished third in his debut behind eventual stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Sand Devil in early December. He rattled off back-to-back victories by a neck in a January 11 maiden and February 23 allowance-optional before making his stakes debut Sunday.

Sent off the narrow 7-5 second choice behind the 6-5 National Identity, Prince Valiant went to the front from the start and controlled the terms by a length over Soontobeking through the opening quarter in :22.67 over the muddy and sealed track.

“I saw us as main speed. Just didn’t really know about the break,” Davis said. “He broke well with me, was able to get to the lead comfortably and he was doing it well. He drifted out a little bit down the backside, but I was able to straighten him up into the turn, and then he just started getting on.”

Prince Valiant stayed up by 1 1/2 lengths over Soontobeking through the half in :46.28 and turned for home with a widening advantage. Davis stayed busy in the stretch and Prince Valiant opened up by 2 lengths at the eight pole. Soontobeking maintained his spot in second and finished 5 1/2 lengths clear of National Identity. Huggy and In the Chase completed the field. Prince Valiant won in 1:16.73.

“I knew he was a fighter so if anyone were to challenge him late, he’d fight on again for me,” Davis said.

Prince Valiant earned $110,000 for the win to boost his bankroll to $201,500.

“He’s naturally finding himself on the front end of races and he’s doing it that way, but he’s such a fighter,” Hampson said. “Any time a horse eyeballs him, he just wants to put his head back in front. As he’s matured, he’s relaxed a little bit and depending on what we do with him, that could reflect in the afternoons as well. He’s running great, so we’re just trying to stay out of his way.”

Lizzy’s Fun is also the dam of the 3-year-old Tonalist colt Rafa’s Dream, who sold for $57,000 at the 2022 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred yearling sale. He made five starts last season in Puerto Rico. She’s also the dam of two other New York-breds – a 2-year-old filly by leading New York sire Central Banker and a filly by Mind Control born February 7.

Soontobeking Assumes the Throne in Thrilling $125K Gander

After five previous stakes placings, Saturday was finally the day for Our Blue Streaks Stable, SGV Thoroughbreds and trainer George Weaver’s Soontobeking as he narrowly prevailed in the $125,000 Gander, a one-turn mile for sophomore New York-breds, at Aqueduct Racetrack.

The King for a Day bay, who entered from a distant third in the local seven-furlong Damon Runyon on February 8, notched the thrilling nose victory with a strong turn-of-foot in deep stretch under regular pilot Eric Cancel in just his second attempt at the distance. The win was rewarding for the colt’s connections after he finished fourth in the $500,000 NYSSS Great White Way in December with a troubled trip that saw him cut off and steadied late after rolling down the lane with a similar momentum to Saturday.

“He shows up and tries every time,” Weaver said. “There’s a good chance he would have won the Stallion Series race, which was setting up well for him. It’s nice to see him win this race.”

Soontobeking bobbled a touch at the start of the Gander and raced in sixth-of-8 exiting the chute while the trio of Givememythememusic, Skytown and Grade 3-winner Mo Plex all vied for command through the opening quarter-mile in 23.87 seconds over the fast main track.

The favored National Identity pursued four-wide into the turn from just off the pace while Givememythememusic backpedaled along the rail and left Mo Plex the one to chase through the half-mile in 47.98. Mo Plex and National Identity quickly drew well clear of the rest of the field through three-quarters in 1:13.88 while Cancel coaxed Soontobeking around tiring foes and set his sights at the embattled duo up front.

"I saw the other two horses in front of me battling it out and they were kind of getting out a little bit in the stretch, so I decided to tip in and if I get there, I get there and if not, at least I did the right thing,” Cancel explained.

Mo Plex and National Identity were shoulder-to-shoulder in upper stretch and the gap between them and their rivals appeared almost insurmountable, but Soontobeking was gaining with every stride and ducked down to the inside path with a sixteenth left to run. National Identity inched clear of a determined Mo Plex and dug in gamely under Kendrick Carmouche, but could not outlast the momentum of Soontobeking as he nabbed the victory in a final time of 1:41.26.

Mo Plex, who entered off a more than four-month layoff, finished a half-length back of National Treasure in third with the Weaver-trained Swift Magic completing the superfecta another 9 1/2 lengths back. Corvus, Skytown, Resilient Hero and Givememythememusic completed the order of finish. Grand Cash and Sunday Gilt, who is entered in a claiming tilt here tomorrow, were scratched.

Cancel, aboard for all of Soontobeking's starts except the aforementioned Great White Way, said his mount is game in every race.

"He's a pretty tricky horse. You just have to let him be wherever he wants to be and sit patient with him. Once you think it's time to go and you start asking him, he picks it up,” Cancel said. “He knows his job and I'm really happy he got the job done today.

"He's very hard-knocking. Every time he comes out to run, he shows up,” Cancel continued. “It doesn't matter the competition he runs in; he always gives 200 percent. I have a lot of confidence in him. It was just a matter of the timing and today the timing was right."

Weaver said the Gander’s pace setup was ideal for his rallying colt.

“Going down the backside, they were stacked three or four across kind of scrumming a bit and I was happy to see that because we needed some pace,” Weaver said. “I was just happy to see the horse sustain the rally. I’ve never been quite sure if the mile is his best distance, but he just kept coming and that’s what we love about the horse. He just gives 110 percent every time and doesn’t stop trying and fighting. He wants to win, so he’s earned a special place in our hearts winning that race, man. He’s a cool dude.”

Bred by Our Blue Streaks Stable and SGV Thoroughbreds, Soontobeking sold for $80,000 at the OBS March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and is out of the Weaver-trained Freud mare Swayed.

“She was a sway-backed filly that Sanford Bacon had bred and he didn’t want to stay in on her, so she was kind of a house horse,” Weaver said of the dam. “She was a hard-trier as well and she knocked out her races at a lower level for the most part. She was hard-trying and put that in this horse. We got him from the 2-year-old sale and he worked well there, and he’s been straightforward ever since.”

Weaver added the next start for Soontobeking is likely the 6 1/2-furlong $200,000 NYSSS Times Square on April 13 here.

Soontobeking banked $68,750 in victory while improving his record to 11-3-2-4 and returning $14.80 on a $2 win ticket.

The Danny Gargan-trained National Identity finished a narrow second in a stake for the third consecutive time following a head defeat in the Great White Way and a neck loss in the Damon Runyon. Carmouche, aboard for all of the colt's starts, said he once again put forth a winning effort.

"My horse ran good - that's all we can ask for,” Carmouche said. “I had everything his way, no excuse. Maybe next time we should put him on the lead instead of sitting, but that's hindsight.".

Rich Strike to stand at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions

Rich Strike, winner of the 2022 Kentucky Derby, is being relocated to Irish Hill and Dutchess Views Stallions LLC in Stillwater, New York, to start the 2025 breeding season.

The 6-year-old son of the Curlin stallion Keen Ice has been purchased by a group that includes his former trainer, Eric Reed, longtime owner Ken Tyson, and Jamie LaMonica, head of the Kentucky-based The Stallion Company bloodstock agency. Rich Strike will stand his initial season for an introductory fee of $6,500 S&N.

Officially retired last fall, Rich Strike earned $2,526,809 during his career. Bred in Kentucky by Calumet Farm, Rich Strike achieved his most notable victory in the Kentucky Derby. In a rail-skimming trip in the first jewel of the Triple Crown, he rallied from 15th at the quarter pole to score by three-quarters of a length over subsequent Grade 1 winner and champion 3-year-old male Epicenter.

“It was originally contemplated to start Rich Strike’s stallion career at Irish Hill and Dutchess Views Stallions, however the deal fell through,” LaMonica said. “When Rich Strike moved to Mountain Spring Farm in Pennsylvania, our new ownership group circled back and made a pitch to get involved with the horse. Everyone at Mountain Spring Farm has been great to work with, but the new ownership group has a stronger relationship with New York than Pennsylvania and we felt that Rich Strike has a better opportunity in New York. With the reconstruction of Belmont Park, we thought it would be beneficial to a stallion that has the pedigree to thrive on all three surfaces—dirt, synthetic and turf.”

In addition to his Derby win, Rich Strike finished a close second to Grade 1 winner Hot Rod Charlie in the Grade 2 Lukas Classic Stakes at Churchill Downs and was third in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks over the Tapeta surface at Turfway Park. Rich Strike is produced from the Grade 3 winner and 2005 Canadian Champion Gold Strike, a daughter of prominent broodmare sire Smart Strike. Gold Strike is also the dam of Grade 2 winner Llanarmon and the granddam of Grade 1-placed and multiple Grade 3 winner Neecie Marie.

“New York breeders are sophisticated and informed, so they understand Rich Strike is a grandson of Curlin and out of a champion mare,” said Irish Hill Century’s Rick Burke. “He should fit a lot of the mare population both genetically and physically. I was able to inspect Rich Strike when we were negotiating the first time around and was really impressed by his good looks and presence. I am looking forward to showing off the Kentucky Derby winner to New York breeders. I think they will really like him.”

Yearlings by Mind Control, Solomini Among Top sellers at OBS Winter Mixed Sale

Short yearling fillies by New York-based sires Mind Control and Solomini were among the leading New York-bred sellers at Tuesday’s OBS winter mixed sale in Ocala.

Hip 185, a daughter of Munnings out of the stakes-placed Empire Maker mare Amazing Shoes, landed the top price for a New York-bred on a bid of $50,000 from Charlie’s Angels.

Sequel Thoroughbreds LLC, Jay Goodwin, Cary Bloodstock and Set Hut LLC bred the filly, who sold for $7,000 to Love’s Equine, agent for Linton Thoroughbreds, at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed sale. Foaled at Sequel Stallions New York in Hudson, she was consigned at OBS by Colin Brennan Bloodstock, agent.

Amazing Shoes, a two-time winner and earner of $87,851, is the dam of six winners from six foals to race including the stakes-producing Flatter mare Heels. She’s also the dam of an unnamed 2-year-old filly by Twirling Candy

Hip 276 , a daughter of Mind Control out of the winning Flower Alley mare Flowers Vale, brought the second highest price on a bid of $35,000 from Arindel.

Bred by and foaled at Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater and consigned by Beth Bayer, agent, the filly is the third foal out of Flowers Vale. She’s also the dam of an unnamed 2-year-old New York-bred Big Brown filly bred by Blue Streak Racing LLC and the unraced 3-year-old Big Brown colt Pint Glass who was bred by BB Stallion LLC.

The filly is also from the first crop of Mind Control , a multiple Grade 1-winning son of Stay Thirsty set to stand his third season in 2025 for $8,000 at Rockridge Stud in Hudson.

New York-based stallions were represented by several other top sellers on the day.

Mind Control also sired the sale’s top-priced New York-bred colt, Hip 208, that brought $26,000 from JMD Investments. Named Be in Monty’s Mind, the colt is out of the winning Afleet Alex mare Biamonte. Bred by Casey Newick LLC, foaled at Meadow View Thoroughbreds in Canajoharie and consigned by Sue Vacek, agent, the colt is the second foal out of Biamonte. She’s also the dam of the 2-year-old New York-bred Khozan filly Biamonte’s Catch who sold for $37,000 at last year’s OBS October yearling sale.

New York’s leading freshman sire of 2023, Solomini, sired the fourth highest-priced horse. Hip 190, a filly out of the unraced Trappe Shot mare Arabella, brought $25,000 from Ad Hoc Stable Inc. Bred by Maggie Seidman’s Seidman Stables LLC, foaled at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs and consigned by McMahon of Saratoga, agent, the filly is the third foal out of Arabella and a half-sister to winner Arabellas Girl (by Overanalyze) and placed Bella Banker (by Central Banker).

Solomini, a 10-year-old son of Curlin who finished third on New York’s general sire list in 2024 with progeny earnings of more than $3.3 million, will stand the 2025 season for $7,500 at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs.

OBS reported sales on 31 of the 34 New York-bred yearlings offered at the sale for $312,200, an average price of $10,071 and median of $5,000.m

IHDV Stallions Announces Updated Roster, Stallion Show Date

Stalwarts King for a Day , Lookin At Lee , Waiting and Warrior’s Charge will return with their fees remaining the same to stand the 2025 season at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions in Stillwater. Those four will be joined by graded stakes winner Petulante and former Pennsylvania sire Peace and Justice for 2025.

Mind Control has moved back to Rockridge Stud in Hudson in a planned move that continues to emphasize the cooperative nature of the partnership that brought the three-time Grade 1 winner to the Empire State. IHDV remains active in Mind Control’s management for 2025. He will stand for $8,000 LFSN.

Peace and Justice will stand for $7,500 LFSN. The established and speedy son of War Front moves from Pennsylvania. He is a sire of multiple stakes winners, highlighted by 2024 Grade 3 Caress Stakes winner Dontlookbackatall. He is also the sire of 2024 Claiming Crown Rapid Transit winner, 17-time winner and $563,411-earner Like a Saltshaker.

Petulante will stand for $5,000 LFSN. He is a graded stakes-winning son of Arrogate out of a multiple graded stakes placed Uncle Mo mare. Petulante was never off the board in seven starts.

King for a Day ($5,000 LFSN) and Lookin At Lee ($2,500 LFSN) have had very good first crop winners and both have stakes performers. King for a Day is represented by the four-time stakes-placed colt Soontobeking.

The first crop from Waiting ($2,500 LFSN), a son of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah whose second dam is champion mare Wait a While, are ready to hit the track this summer.

Breeders are very happy with their Warrior’s Charge ($5,000 LFSN) foals. Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stables remain very highly supportive of the son of Munnings. The foals appear to have their sire’s engine and will hopefully be able to carry their speed as Warrior’s Charge proved time and again in his career.

IHDV will work very closely with breeders by offering incentives for qualifying mares and multiple mare discounts across the entire roster.

IHDV will hold its stallion show this year from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 11 at Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater. Lunch will be served, there will be a raffle for a free season to each stallion and special stallion show/early-season pricing will be offered.

Peace And Justice to Stand at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions for 2025

Peace and Justice , a brilliant miler by War Front and sire of multiple stakes winners, will relocate from Pennsylvania to stand the 2025 season at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions in Stillwater.

The 14-year-old out of the winning Smart Strike mare Strike the Sky will stand for an advertised fee of $7,500 S&N.

“We are very excited to bring a proven stallion like Peace and Justice with his credentials and numbers to New York,” said Steven W. Young. “With the advent of a third racing surface, combined with the purse parity coming to the state, Peace and Justice should do very well.”

Peace and Justice ran three 95+ Beyer Speed Figures. He captured a Santa Anita Park allowance contest in dominant fashion by 5 1/4 lengths, and another 1-mile contest going wire-to-wire in a swift 1:32.36. Throughout his career, Peace and Justice defeated multiple graded stakes winners, including Grade 1 winner Drill. He earned “TDN Rising Star” status and ran 3/5 seconds off Horse of the Year Wise Dan’s course record at Santa Anita with a wire-to-wire mile victory in 1:32.36 (22.47, 44.55, 1:08.05, 1:20.20).

Peace and Justice is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Hudson Steele and the dam of Grade 1-placed dirt runner My Man Sam. He is bred on the same proven Grade 1 cross as Peace and War, winner of the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades and third in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes.

Like his sire War Front, Peace and Justice has proven himself as a sire with a high strike rate, evidenced by nearly 70% winners from starters lifetime. Among his last 100 starters, 47% finished in-the-money, with 18% winners and $8,250 average earnings per start.

Peace and Justice’s top runners include Dontlookbackatall, winner of the Grade 3 Caress Stakes at Saratoga Race Course, Power by Far Stakes at Parx Racing and the License Fee Stakes at the Belmont at the Big A meeting this year.

Graded Stakes Winner Petulante, by Arrogate, Joins the Roster at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions

PETULANTE (2019 Arrogate o/o Auntjenn by Uncle Mo), a Graded Stakes winning and Black Type-placed runner has been retired and will enter stud in 2025 under the management of Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions LLC in Saratoga, New York.

Racing for Lugamo Racing Stable LLC, the ultra-consistent PETULANTE broke his maiden at first asking and would never finish off the board. His foray into Graded Stakes company would result in a win at the important stallion making distance of one mile in the Grade 3 Salvator Mile at Monmouth beating the likes of Wood Memorial (G2) winner Bourbonic and millionaire Clark Stakes (G2) winner, Trademark. Lugamo Racing Stable LLC retains interest in the stallion and will insure that the stallion is very well supported during his early years at stud.

The son of leading national sire Arrogate, will stand his initial season for $5,000 LFSN. The brilliant Arrogate had his coming out party in the 2016 Travers Stakes (G1) at nearby Saratoga Racecourse and went on to reel off consecutive wins in three of the world’s richest races, The Breeders’ Cup Classic, The Pegasus World Cup Invitational and then the Dubai World Cup. Arrogate, now deceased, is the sire of classic winners Arcangelo (Belmont Stakes) and Seize the Grey (Preakness Stakes).
